If you’re anything like me, you are missing your sink full of tomatoes about now. You may be feeling like there is nothing you can do right now to further your garden…but there is! NOW is the time to start planning that spring garden!
I love to spend this time of year researching plants I want to add or subtract as well as drawing up my garden plans. Some of my must grows here in zone 6 include dragon tongue bush beans, blue lake bush beans, and beefsteak tomatoes.
Dahlias are also something I am giving another go this year. Dahlias where I live must be dug up and stored through the winter. This means I spend time checking my tubers to make sure they are not drying out, and not rotting. I plan to start these tubers indoors in the early spring as well as take and propagate cuttings to produce more plants.
I like to order my seeds this time of year so that I have them ready to go when it’s time to plant! I prefer to purchase local, but I recommend Bakers Creek for seeds! If looking for dahlias tubers, local dahlia farmers are your best bet for healthy beautiful plants!
Don’t let the cold weather get you down! This will keep you busy and before you know it it will be ready to plant & you’ll have those big juicy tomatoes back in you sink too, ready to can!
